Il suo nome si traduce in &#8220;castello scavato dai demoni&#8221; e riflette la sua misteriosa e suggestiva presenza nel <a href=\"https:\/\/central-asia.guide\/turkmenistan\/destinations-tr\/karakum-desert\/\">deserto del Karakum<\/a>. Il sito \u00e8 costituito dai resti di una cittadella e dalle rovine pi\u00f9 grandi di un&#8217;antica citt\u00e0 chiamata Vazir, risalente al IV o III secolo a.C..  <\/p><p>La fortezza \u00e8 arroccata su una scogliera di 30 metri e presenta un&#8217;imponente struttura in mattoni di fango con torri rettangolari regolarmente distanziate, pilastri scanalati e tracce di gallerie superiori e inferiori progettate a scopo difensivo. Nel corso del tempo sono state aggiunte nuove mura esterne e torri semicircolari, migliorando le sue fortificazioni strategiche. Gli elementi architettonici del sito e la sua vista dominante sul paesaggio arido lo rendono un esempio unico di progettazione militare antica.  <\/p><p>Vazir, la citt\u00e0 associata alla fortezza, era un importante insediamento medievale, ma alla fine decadde a causa dei cambiamenti ambientali e climatici. L&#8217;inaridimento dei fiumi, potenzialmente influenzato da interventi umani come le dighe, e la desertificazione generale della regione hanno portato al suo abbandono intorno al XVI secolo. Oggi l&#8217;accesso a Dev Kesken \u00e8 difficile e richiede permessi speciali a causa della sua posizione vicino al confine tra Turkmenistan e Uzbekistan.  <\/p><p>La fortezza fa parte del pi\u00f9 ampio contesto storico della regione di Chorasmia, nota per i suoi insediamenti medievali e antichi influenzati dalla cultura persiana.
