China Launches Visa-Free Travel with Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan to Boost Silk Road Tourism
China’s new visa-free agreements with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan highlight a significant step toward greater regional connectivity. These policies are already increasing travel and cultural exchange along the historic Silk Road, while also opening doors for deeper business and diplomatic engagement across Central Asia.
China now has visa-free agreements with both Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, and it’s already making travel much easier between these countries. Starting June 1, 2025, citizens of China and Uzbekistan can visit each other without a visa for up to 30 days per trip, with a total stay of 90 days within 180 days.Â
A similar visa-free deal between China and Kazakhstan has already been in effect since 20242. These agreements are part of a broader push to boost tourism and cultural exchange. More Chinese travellers are now exploring Central Asia, especially along the historic Silk Road.  With easier travel and more flights, places like Samarkand, Tashkent, and Almaty are seeing a rise in visitors from China.
