How to Travel to Central Asia

Central Asia is a vast area and you will need to book your flights depending on your planned tour itinerary. On this page, you can find information about the main airports and airlines that travel inside and to Central Asia. We’ll also look at how you can travel to Central Asia from places like Europe, USA, UAE, India, and other Asian countries.

Central Asian domestic flights

Domestic flights in Kyrgyzstan

In Kyrgyzstan, flights operate mainly from Bishkek to other cities. There are several daily flights between Bishkek and Osh, Bishkek and Jalalabad. During the summer time there are also flights to Issyk Kul (Tamchy and/or Karakol) from Bishkek and Osh. Less frequent flights also connect smaller regional cities like Batken and Naryn.

Domestic flights in Tajikistan

In Tajikistan, domestic flights are only available between Dushanbe and Khujand but they are not available every day and the availability varies according to season. There used to be helicopter flights to Pamir but currently they are suspended. There might be other flights available as well but they cannot be booked online and the details must be confirmed in Tajik Air office.

Domestic flights in Kazakhstan

Almaty, Astana and Shymkent are the primary hubs for domestic air travel in Kazakhstan. There are dozens of flights between Almaty and Astana daily and from both cities there are also frequent flights to Aktau (Mangystau). All major cities can also be reached from Astana and Almaty and even smaller cities are covered by regional Kazakh airlines.

Domestic flights in Uzbekistan

Tashkent is connected by domestic flights to Bukhara, Samarkand, Urgench (gateway to Khiva), Nukus (Aral Sea), Qarshi, Namangan (Fergana Valley), Fergana, Termez (southern bordernext to Afghanistan), Navoi (mining region) and Kokand. In addition, there are also flights between Samarkand and several cities in Fergana Valley. Smaller cities have also point to point connections with other local Uzbek hubs but with less frequent flights.

Domestic flights in Uzbekistan

Ashgabat is connected by frequent flights to Daşoguz (multiple times daily), Turkmenabat, Mary, Türkmenbaşy, Kerki and Balkanabat. There are also domestic Turkmen flights between Daşoguz ↔ Turkmenabat, Mary, Türkmenbaşy and Mary ↔ Türkmenbaşy.
