Visitors staying at hotels generally do not need to worry about registration because hotels report their foreign guests to the authorities. However, travelers staying in an Airbnb, rented apartment, or a friend’s home must make sure their host reports their arrival to Kazakhstan’s migration authorities. The responsibility belongs to the host or property owner, not the traveler. The host can submit the notification online and does not normally need to visit a government office.

Visitors staying in private accommodation should contact their host before arriving and make sure the host knows about the reporting requirement. Failure to report a foreign guest can lead to warnings or fines for the host and may cause problems for the traveler when leaving Kazakhstan.
