Kyrgyzstan Visa

Kyrgyzstan visa

Kyrgyzstan stands out among Central Asian countries for its progressive and traveler-friendly visa policies, making it an excellent destination for tourists exploring the region. The country’s visa regime is designed with accessibility in mind, allowing many travelers to enter visa-free, while others can conveniently apply for an e-visa online or obtain one through their local Kyrgyz embassy. However, in recent years, there have been changes, such as the cancellation of the visa-run system, which previously allowed travelers to exit and re-enter the country to reset their visa-free stay. Kyrgyzstan e-Visa

The Sapar visa is Kyrgyzstan’s main short-term visa for tourists and other visitors, introduced in January 2025. It replaced older types of visas, like tourist, business, or mountain-tourism visas, so now you just choose Sapar when applying for a short visit. It also covers trips for tourism, visiting friends or family, business, medical visits, or adventure travel. The visa is usually valid for up to 90 days and can be single or multiple entry, depending on your nationality.

You apply online through the official portal evisa.e-gov.kg, so you don’t need to go to an embassy. You will need a passport valid for at least six months, a passport-sized photo, a scanned copy of your passport, and sometimes proof of accommodation or a Letter of Invitation. Standard processing takes a few days, but the urgent option can approve it in about 24 hours. Every traveller, including children, must apply separately. The Sapar visa is only for short visits, not for work or study. Overall, it makes visiting Kyrgyzstan much easier because it combines different visa types into one simple application.

To apply, travelers can visit the official e-Visa portal evisa.e-gov.kg where the process is quick and straightforward. Once approved, the e-Visa holders must enter Kyrgyzstan via Manas International Airport (near Bishkek) or Osh International Airport, or through specific land borders with neighboring countries. These land crossings include China (Irkeshtam and Torugart), Kazakhstan (Ak-jol, Ak-Tilek, Chaldybar, Chon-Kapka), Tajikistan (Bor-Dobo, Kulundu, Kyzyl-Bel), and Uzbekistan (Dostuk-Dostlik, north of Osh).

Some countries require a Letter of Invitation (LOI) to apply for a Kyrgyzstan visa because the government wants to verify the purpose of the visit and ensure accountability for visitors from certain regions. The LOI is usually issued by a host organization such as travel agency, company, hotel, or individual in Kyrgyzstan, confirming that the traveler has accommodation or a business contact.

For other countries, an LOI is not required because Kyrgyzstan has trust agreements or simplified visa procedures with those nations, often based on strong diplomatic ties or a history of low immigration risk such as Philippine. In these cases, travelers can apply for a visa or e-visa directly without additional documentation. Also, Philippine citizens can get visa on arrival.

Letter of invitation to Kyrgyzstan

To obtain a Kyrgyzstan tourist visa, most passport holders are required to provide a letter of invitation from a registered tourist company. If you book a tour with us, we will provide the necessary invitation letter to assist with your visa application.

Visa runs in Kyrgyzstan

Visa runs are no longer possible. If you have used up your 60 days, you have to stay out of the country for 60 days before you can enter for another 60 days. It’s 60 days within 120 days. If you exit the country before your 60 days are up, you can return anytime to consume the remainder of your visa free stay.

The authorities of Kyrgyzstan have decided to abolish the simplified entry system for foreigners known as “visa runs” and replace it with a new visa-free regime based on the “60/120” principle, as reported by the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Previously, foreign nationals who reached the maximum visa-free stay in Kyrgyzstan could leave the country and immediately re-enter, effectively “resetting” their visa-free stay. Under the new system, after a 60-day visa-free stay, a foreign national can only re-enter the country after 60 days have passed.

For citizens of countries that can visit Kyrgyzstan visa-free for up to 90 days, the new rule follows the “90/180” principle. This means that after staying in Kyrgyzstan for 90 days, they must wait for 180 days before being allowed to re-enter the country. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan clarified these changes to ensure the new visa-free system is understood.

Kyrgyzstan Registration Rule

There have been times when a registration in a police office has been required from foreigners staying more than a certain time in Kyrgyzstan but to our knowledge these rules do not apply at the moment.

Special pass for border areas

In Kyrgyzstan, certain regions require additional documentation to visit or pass through, particularly those near the border with China in the Issyk-Kul and Naryn areas. This includes locations such as Karkyra, Inylchek, the areas around Pobeda Peak and Khan Tengri, Kel-Suu, At-Bashi, Ak-Sai, Peak Lenin, and the Torugart Pass.

We offer assistance in obtaining special permits for these border zones, including a single pass that covers all restricted areas. If you need help with obtaining Kyrgyz border permits, please feel free to contact us.

Please be aware that attempting to travel to these regions without the proper authorization can be risky and may lead to issues with the Kyrgyz government. At a minimum, you may be denied entry into these restricted areas.
