NOMAD GAMES TOUR HIGHLIGHTS
Experience the magic of Kyrgyzstan on this 10-day journey combining breathtaking nature, rich culture, and the excitement of the World Nomad Games. Starting in Bishkek, you’ll explore the alpine beauty of Ala-Archa National Park, stroll through the city’s Central Square, and visit monuments and local bazaars.
Travel north to the shores of Issyk-Kul Lake, the second-largest mountain lake in the world, where you will attend the Nomad Games and witness traditional sports like belt wrestling, Kok-Boru, and horse-mounted archery, alongside cultural performances and hunting demonstrations with golden eagles and taigans. Highlights also include the Museum of Petroglyphs, boat rides on the lake, and picturesque gorges such as Jeti-Oguz, Skazka Canyon, and Barskoon, where waterfalls and unique rock formations create unforgettable landscapes.

NOMAD GAMES TOUR ITINERARY
Day 1. September 3
Airport – Bishkek (45 km, 40 minutes of driving)

Arrival to Bishkek early in the morning, meeting with the Kyrgyz guide and driver, transfer to hotel for rest and buffet breakfast. Early check-in is included. Free time to relax after the flight. Lunch and dinner in the hotel or in the restaurant close to the hotel.

Day 2. September 4
Bishkek-Ala-Archa-Bishkek (40 km one way, 40-50 minutes of driving)

Breakfast at the hotel and transfer to Ala-Archa National Park. Ala-Archa is an alpine National Park in the Tian Shan mountains of Kyrgyzstan. Walking excursion about 1-2 hours. Return back to Bishkek.
Lunch. After lunch City tour around Bishkek, with visiting Central Square, park, monument of the epic hero Manas and local bazaar (note! Bazaar is closed on Monday).
Dinner in the local restaurant. Overnight in the hotel.

Day 3. September 5
Bishkek – Cholpon – Ata (300 km, about 4-6 hours of driving)

Breakfast. Transfer to northern shore of Issyk- Kul. Issyk Kul is the second largest mountain lake in the world after Titicaca Lake in South America.
Transfer to the Cholpon-Ata to attend the World Nomad Games. This large-scale cultural and sports event takes place every two years and gathers participants and spectators from all over the world. During the day, you will witness visid demonstrations of traditional sports such as belt wrestling (alysh), equestrian wrestling (Er Enish) and the exciting Kok-Boru game a team competition on horseback with the bode of sheep (like polo). Lunch (there will be Food courts or we will prepare lunch boxes).
There will also be archery demonstrations, including traditional horse shooting, and hunting with golden eagles and taigans – ancient hunting dogs, will be seen at the ethnographic site. In the afternoon, return to the hotel in Cholpon Ata.
Dinner and overnight in the hotel.

Please note! The World Nomad Games will take place in the Kyrchyn Gorge. Competitions will be held at different venues, and the group can choose which ones to attend.
Keep in mind that no seating is provided — guests will be watching the events while standing, as is traditional at nomadic festivals, which adds to the authentic atmosphere.

Breakfast at the hotel.
Visit the Museum of Petroglyphs. The museum covers an impressive area of 42 hectares, dotted with hundreds of boulders featuring ancient rock carvings. The oldest petroglyphs date back to the first millennium BCE.
Lunch. In the evening participating in the Closing Ceremony of World Nomad Games.
Dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 5. September 7
Cholpon – Ata – Karakol (160 km, about 3-4 hours of driving)

Breakfast at the hotel. Boat excursion about 1 hour in Issyk-Kul lake. Issyk Kul – means warm lake, not freezes in winter as it is salty lake with length 200km and wide is 60km, with the deepest place is 730m.
Transfer to Karakol, the largest town in the eastern part of Issyk-Kul region.
Upon arrival to Karakol, start a city tour of Karakol: visit the Dungan Mosque built in a Chinese style without a single nail, and the Russian Orthodox Church made entirely of wood, local Bazaar.
Lunch in the local restaurant. After lunch we can visit the local hot springs for a relaxing break. Transfer to the hotel for check-in and rest.
You will visit Uigur family for the dinner. You will test Lagman during the dinner in the family.

If it’s Sunday, visit Sunday animal market before the breakfast. The Karakol Animal Market is held every Sunday morning. Activities usually start as early as 4:00 AM and wind down by 10:00 AM.
Breakfast at the hotel. Morning transfer along the southern shore of Issyk-Kul Lake to the village of Tamga. En route, visit the picturesque Jeti-Oguz Gorge, famous for its red sandstone cliffs, including the iconic “Broken Heart” rock formation and the “Seven Bulls” cliffs. Easy walking excursion about 1 hour in the gorge, to have beautiful view to the Seven Bulls. Lunch.
Continue driving to the yurt camp. Upon arrival check-in and free time before the dinner.
Dinner and overnight in the yurt camp.

Day 7. September 9

Breakfast. Transfer to Skazka Canyon where we go on a walk on these bizarre red rock formations. Walking excursion about 1-2 hours.
In Kadji-Sai village, have lunch in the family of local musicians and listen Folklore show, after you can interact with people and know about the life stories.
After lunch visit Barskoon gorge. The slopes of the gorge are covered with thick vegetation and shrubs. There are three waterfalls in the gorge. “The Tears of the Snow Leopard” waterfall is the name of the most famous waterfall of the Barskoon Gorge. This unique place is a state natural monument. The height from which the water stream descends is about 100 meters. The walking takes about 30-40 minutes one way to the first point of great view.
Return to the yurt camp and before dinner, together with the chef of yurt camp, experience “Manty” cooking class. Dinner in the yurt camp.

Day 8. September 10

Breakfast in the yurt camp. Transfer to Chon-Kemin Nature park.
On the way we will meet an eagle hunter who will show us the training process with eagles.
We also will have a stop in Kyzyl-Tuu village where a local family will show us the production of wooden yurt frame. This village is famous with its talented artisans, who makes wooden parts of yurts. Lunch in the family.
Continue driving to Chon-Kemin. Upon arrival, check-in at the guesthouse.
Dinner and overnight in the guesthouse.

Breakfast. Walking excursion about 2 hours in the Nature Park to the Panorama view. Return to the guesthouse and participate in cooking master class of Boorsok- Kyrgyz bread.
Lunch in the guesthouse with fresh bread.
Transfer to Bishkek. On the way stop at Burana Tower. This minaret was built in the 11th century in the medieval city of Balasagun, capital of the mighty Karakhanid Empire. You can climb up the minaret’s winding staircase to enjoy a wide view of the scenic Chuy Valley. There is also an open-air museum here featuring a collection of ancient balbals, carved stone figures often found around ancient burial mounds.
Transfer to Bishkek. Farewell dinner in the local restaurant. Overnight in the hotel.

The official currency is the Kyrgyz som (KGS). In the capital, Bishkek, an abundance of ATMs can be found, some of which dispense US dollars in addition to local soms. Beyond the city limits, ATMs are increasingly prevalent in few largest towns but are mostly not available in smaller towns except at the northern shore of Issyk Kul.
Mastercard is universally accepted at all ATMs but Visa is still the more widely accepted card of choice in Kyrgyzstan. Maestro or other cards might be accepted in few select machines. Demirbank with their red colored ATMs has been the best option lately for all foreign cards with moderate fees.
Currency exchange services are readily accessible in major cities, ensuring seamless exchange of rubles, US dollars, and euros into soms. It is imperative that foreign currency banknotes remain pristine, fresh, and devoid of any signs of wear. Larger banknotes from 50 USD and 50 EUR are favored by the cash exchange services and are sometimes the prerequisite for a better exchange rate.
While credit cards face limited acceptance nationwide the convenience of utilizing debit or credit cards extends to major hotels, restaurants, expansive supermarkets, and selected museums in Bishkek and Osh and rarely even in taxis. However, outside these two prominent cities and Northern Shore of Issyk Kul, the practicality of card payments remains unfeasible.

Kyrgyzstan is generally considered safe for travelers, but adherence to standard precautions is crucial. The country is experiencing an active surge in tourism. Key recommendations encompass:
- Always have your passport or a notarized copy with you, as lacking proper identification may lead to arrest by the police.
- Incidents of robberies, some of which can be violent, and thefts are commonplace especially in crowded places like the bazars. Caution is advised, particularly when venturing out after dark. Instances of sexual violence and harassment have been reported in public transportation.
- Steer clear of crowds and demonstrations to ensure personal safety.
- Show respect for local traditions, customs, laws, and religious practices at all times.
- The possession or use of narcotics is strictly prohibited.
- Photography of anything related to the armed forces or security services is not allowed.
- While same-sex relationships are legal, they are not widely discussed and lack public recognition.
- Avoid solitary walks or travels, especially during nighttime.
- Utilize established taxi services in advance to ensure reliability.
- The southern regions are susceptible to smuggling activities, rendering the security situation unstable and hazardous along the southern border zones with Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.
- Mind where you step in the cities as there are sometimes large holes on the streets and the pavements are not in pristine condition on the pedestrian areas.

Kyrgyzstan extends a visa-free arrangement to travelers from 69 countries. Alternatively, others can opt for the electronic visa system or submit applications through the embassy. Comprehensive information about visas is available here. For a tourist visa in Kyrgyzstan, a majority of passport holders require an invitation letter from a tourism company. Since September 1, 2017, Kyrgyzstan has introduced an electronic visa system. Special authorization is mandated for visits to border regions in Kyrgyzstan.

The optimal time to experience Kyrgyzstan is during the summer months of July and August. Despite the temperatures reaching approximately 30°C, this period witnesses the liveliest bazaars in the country. It is also the perfect season to delve into the mountainous landscapes and trekking routes that may be inaccessible during other times of the year. In July and August, you have the opportunity to explore Kyrgyzstan’s mountains either on foot or horseback, immersing yourself in traditional yurt accommodations with local families. Additionally, this time of the year hosts annual festivals celebrating Kyrgyz traditions.
While the winters in the highlands are prolonged, limiting passage through the elevated mountain passes, it presents a captivating season for exploring Kyrgyzstan. Engaging in various activities, akin to those enjoyed in summer (with the exception of rafting), such as hiking, horseback riding, or skiing in the mountains, allows for a unique experience. Accommodations in traditional yurts are also available during this season.

The overall state of healthcare in this country is recognized as relatively subpar, prompting a strong recommendation for travelers reliant on regular medications to carry ample supplies. Locating necessary drugs locally might pose challenges or incur significant costs. Medical facilities are anticipated to be scarce, underscoring the importance of securing comprehensive medical and travel insurance prior to arrival. In the event of a serious accident or illness, emergency air evacuation to a neighboring country may be necessary.
It is imperative to treat tap water and other local water sources as contaminated, necessitating thorough boiling before consumption. Opting for bottled water throughout the entire duration of stay in the country is a prudent choice. Exercise particular caution when consuming unpasteurized dairy products or animal products that may be susceptible to contamination.
Before entering the country, obtaining additional vaccinations against polio and tuberculosis is recommended, and other vaccinations may also be deemed necessary. Malaria poses a risk in the country, predominantly in the southern regions.
