This enchanting journey invites you to welcome the festival of Navruz, the Oriental New Year, in the heart of Uzbekistan. Marking the arrival of spring, Navruz is a time of joy, music and ancient traditions, when the whole country bursts into celebration.

We begin in Tashkent before travelling to the fabled Silk Road cities of Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva each a glittering treasure of Islamic architecture, lively bazaars and timeless caravan squares. In Samarkand, we shall not only marvel at Registan’s splendor and the jade-domed Gur-e Amir, but also join the locals in festive Navruz celebrations: traditional dances, age-old games and the taste of dishes prepared only once a year. From desert fortresses to UNESCO-listed masterpieces, this is a journey steeped in history, hospitality and celebration, a truly memorable way to greet the spring.

Tour Itinerary

Day 1 Tashkent

Statue of the 14th century Uzbek leader Tamerlane stands on Amir Timur maydoni, a square in the center of Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

We arrive in Tashkent, the welcoming capital of Uzbekistan. After meeting at the airport, we transfer to the hotel for early check-in and rest. 

Later in the morning we begin our sightseeing tour: Khast-Imam Square with its centuries-old Quran, the elegant Barak-Khan Madrasah, and the tranquil Kafal-al-Shashi Mausoleum. We continue to the bustling Chorsu Bazaar and the charming Kukeldash Madrasah. After lunch, we’ll admire the colorful Museum of Applied Arts, the grand Independence Square, Amir Timur Square, and the white-marble Minor Mosque. Overnight in Tashkent.

Bibi Khanym in Samarkand

After breakfast we board the morning train to Samarkand, the legendary “Pearl of the East.” On arrival we start our guided tour: Gur-e-Amir Mausoleum, resting place of Tamerlane, and the magnificent Registan Square, with its three grand madrasahs. In the afternoon we continue to the Bibi-Khanym Mosque and the holy Shah-i-Zinda necropolis, where turquoise domes rise above ancient tombs. Overnight in Samarkand.

This morning we explore more of Samarkand: Ulugbek Observatory, once the center of medieval astronomy, the Afrasiab Museum with ancient murals, Saint Daniel’s Tomb, and workshops of traditional silk paper and carpets. We’ll also stroll through the lively Siab Bazaar. The highlight of the day is joining the joyful Navruz festivities, a colorful celebration of spring, renewal, and friendship. Expect music, dance, games, and delicious festive dishes. Overnight in Samarkand.

Today we take a journey to Shakhrisabz, the birthplace of Tamerlane. Here we’ll visit the ruins of Ak-Saray Palace, the Dorus Saodat and Dorut Tillavat complexes, and the Kok Gumbaz Mosque. In the afternoon we return to Samarkand for some free time before catching the evening train to Bukhara. Overnight at the hotel in Bukhara.

We spend the whole day discovering Bukhara, one of the most atmospheric Silk Road cities. Our walking tour includes the Samanid Mausoleum, Chashma Ayub Mausoleum, the lively bazaar, Bolo-Khauz Mosque, Ark Citadel, and the majestic Po-i-Kalyan complex with its soaring minaret. We also explore Ulugbek Madrasah, Magoki-Attori Mosque, and the serene Lyab-i Hauz ensemble. Overnight in Bukhara.

After breakfast we drive through the vast Kyzylkum Desert, following the Amudarya River. In the afternoon we arrive in Khiva, an open-air museum-city, where time seems to have stopped centuries ago. Leisure time to stroll through workshops and souvenir shops. Overnight in Khiva.

This morning we dive into the fairy-tale city of Khiva, exploring the walled Ichan-Kala: Pakhlavan Mahmud Complex, Kunya-Ark Fortress, Islam Khoja Minaret, Tash-Khauli Palace, Juma Mosque, and more. In the evening we transfer to Urgench for our flight to Tashkent. On arrival, check-in and overnight at the hotel.

After breakfast we check out and transfer to the airport for departure. Farewell to Uzbekistan and its warm Navruz spirit!
