FIVE STAN FIXED TOUR ITINERARY
Fifteen days, three countries such as Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan, and more landscapes than you can count. Starting in Kyrgyzstan, you’ll explore Bishkek, ride through mountain gorges, skirt the shores of Issyk-Kul, and sleep near nomadic villages before climbing to the stillness of Song-Kul lake. From there, Kazakhstan pulls you in with Almaty‘s buzz and the surreal rocks of Charyn Canyon. A short flight lands you in Tajikistan’s Dushanbe, the journey continuing through ancient Khujand before it all wraps up in Tashkent, one of Central Asia’s most storied cities.
FIVE STAN TOUR HIGHLIGHTS
This 15-day journey across Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan showcases the diverse landscapes and cultures of Central Asia. Starting in Bishkek, the route explores historical and natural highlights including Burana Tower, Cholpon-Ata, and the scenic Grigoriev and Semenov gorges. Continue to Karakol and discover the striking red formations of Jeti-Ögüz, the waterfalls of Barskoon, and the peaceful lakeside villages of Tamga and Bokonbaevo. The journey also includes Skazka Canyon, traditional craft villages such as Kyzyl-Tuu and Kochkor, and the alpine beauty of Song-Kul and Chon-Kemin valleys.
The adventure continues into Kazakhstan with a visit to Almaty and the dramatic landscapes of Charyn Canyon. From there, fly to Dushanbe in Tajikistan and travel north to Khujand, experiencing another layer of Central Asia’s rich heritage. The tour concludes in Uzbekistan’s capital, Tashkent, providing a fitting finale to a multi-country expedition filled with mountain scenery, cultural encounters, and Silk Road history.
5 STAN TOUR ITINERARY
Day 1 Bishkek
Arrive in Bishkek at any time. Standard hotel check-in is available after 14:00, with free time to relax or explore the city at your own pace. At 14:00, meet your guide and fellow travelers for a welcome briefing covering the itinerary and travel plans, followed by a guided city tour of Bishkek. In the evening, enjoy a welcome dinner at a traditional restaurant, where you will have the opportunity to taste national Kyrgyz cuisine.

Note: It is highly recommended to book an additional night at the hotel, as most flights to Bishkek arrive late at night or early in the morning
Day 2. Bishkek – Burana – Iskra village – Cholpon Ata
Start your day with breakfast at the hotel before heading to the Burana Tower in the Chuy Valley, an ancient minaret and the remains of the medieval town of Balasagyn, founded by the Karakhanids at the end of the 9th century. Explore the tower, funerary monuments, earthworks, castle ruins, and three historic mausoleums.
Continue to Iskra Village for lunch with a Dungan family, part of the Chinese Muslim community that settled in Kyrgyzstan. Enjoy their authentic national cuisine before departing for Issyk-Kul, the largest lake in Kyrgyzstan and one of the world’s deepest. Upon arrival, visit the petroglyph museum covering 42 hectares with stones, tombs, balbals, and carvings dating from the 2nd millennium BC to the 4th century AD. Spend the afternoon at leisure—relax on the beach or swim in the lake—before enjoying dinner at the hotel restaurant.

Day 3. Cholpon Ata – Grigoriev and Semienov gorges – Karakol
After breakfast at the hotel, travel to the Grigoriev and Semenov Gorges, two of the most famous natural attractions in the Issyk-Kul region. Enjoy a picnic or lunch at a roadside café, then take time to explore the gorges on foot, soaking in the stunning scenery and pristine wilderness.
Continue to Karakol, the administrative center of the Issyk-Kul region. Explore the town’s highlights, including the Russian Orthodox Cathedral and the Dungan Mosque, which reflect the city’s diverse cultural heritage. In the evening, enjoy dinner at a local restaurant before resting at your hotel.

Day 4 Day 4. Karakol – Jeti Oguz – Barskoon – Tamga
After breakfast, depart from Karakol and head toward the stunning Jeti-Ögüz Gorge, famous for its striking red cliffs known as the “Broken Heart.” At the entrance to the gorge, admire this dramatic natural formation and enjoy a leisurely hour-long walk surrounded by fresh mountain air and sweeping views.
Next, continue to Barskoon Gorge, renowned for its picturesque waterfalls. Don’t miss the captivating “Tears of the Snow Leopard” waterfall, a site rich in beauty and local legend. Midway through the gorge, visit the monument dedicated to Yuri A. Gagarin, the world’s first cosmonaut, standing proudly against the rugged backdrop. Conclude the day with dinner and an overnight stay at a cozy guesthouse.

Day 5. Tamga – Skazka – Bokonbaevo – Kochkor
After breakfast, depart toward Kochkor Village, traveling along the southern shore of Issyk-Kul Lake. En route, visit the Skazka Canyons, also known as the “Fairy Tale,” where the unusual rock formations resemble animals, towers, and other imaginative shapes.
Next, meet a traditional eagle hunter and his bird, witnessing the speed, skill, and alertness of these magnificent birds in action—a living tradition of the Kyrgyz nomads. Enjoy lunch at a guesthouse or café before visiting Kyzyl-Tuu Village, where a local family demonstrates the art of yurt-making, a craft passed down through generations. Continue to Kochkor for dinner and an overnight stay at a guesthouse, surrounded by the peaceful countryside.

Day 6. Kochkor – Son Kul lake/Tash Rabat
After breakfast, the route depends on the season. Summer departures (May–September) take you from Kochkor to Son-Kul Lake, climbing along winding mountain roads to the Kalmak Ashu Pass (3,447 m). From this high vantage point, Son-Kul shimmers like a turquoise jewel amidst the vast highland plains. Descending toward the lake, its true grandeur reveals itself: expansive waters surrounded by rolling green pastures. Upon arrival at the yurt camp, experience the warmth and hospitality of the nomads, learning about their centuries-old traditions and way of life. In the evening, enjoy a hearty dinner before spending the night in authentic yurts under a sky full of stars.
Spring & Fall departures (March, April, October, November) follow a different route from Kochkor to the historic Tash Rabat Caravanserai, crossing the Dolon Pass (3,030 m). Founded by monks in the 10th century, Tash Rabat served as a monastery and later as a safe stop for Silk Road caravans. Along the way, enjoy lunch at a restaurant in Naryn and dinner at the yurt camp in Tash Rabat.

Day 7 Day 7. Son Kul lake/Tash Rabat – Chon-Kemin

Spend the morning soaking in all the beauty of surrounding nature.
We set out for the scenic Chon-Kemin Valley, with a stop in the charming village of Kochkor. Here, we discover the rich tradition of felt-making, an art deeply woven into Kyrgyz culture. Guided by skilled local artisans, we take part in a hands-on workshop, crafting our own miniature ala-kiyiz — the colorful, patterned felt carpet beloved by nomads for generations.
Opt for a stroll through the tranquil village, surrounded by sweeping mountain views. Later enjoy savoring a freshly prepared traditional dinner — a perfect ending to a day of culture and beauty.

Day 8. Chon-Kemin - Almaty
After breakfast at the hotel, depart for the Kyrgyz-Kazakh border. Enjoy the experience of crossing into a new country and adding another stamp to your passport as you enter Kazakhstan.
The day’s destination is Almaty, the former capital of Kazakhstan. Upon arrival, embark on a city tour to discover the highlights, including Independence Square, Zenkov Cathedral, Panfilov Park, and the impressive WWII Memorial.

Day 9 Khujand
Begin the day with a city tour of Almaty, starting with a visit to Medeo Gorge, home to the world’s highest mountain sports complex at an altitude of 1,691 meters. This scenic spot is a favorite weekend destination for locals and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
Next, take a cable car ride to Kok Tobe, the highest point in the city. The ride begins near Hotel Kazakhstan, passing over historic parts of Almaty and lush fruit-growing gardens. At the top, enjoy panoramic views of the city and mountains, spot the famous 372-meter-high TV Tower, and explore a few attractions at the summit.

Day 10. Almaty – Charyn Canyon – Almaty
Visit Charyn Canyon, located within a national park and often called the “little brother” of the Grand Canyon in the United States. Over millennia, the Charyn River has carved dramatic and breathtaking landscapes. Upon arrival, take in the magnificent panoramic views before descending to the bottom of the gorge for a 2 km hike through the Valley of the Castles, a labyrinth of striking rock formations.

Day 11 Almaty - Dushanbe
Take a flight to Dushanbe, Tajikistan, and cross the Kazakhstan–Tajikistan border, adding another stamp to your passport as you enter a new country.
Today, explore Dushanbe, a city whose name means “Monday,” founded in 1925 on the site of a small village that hosted a large Monday bazaar. Once known as Stalinabad during the Soviet era, Dushanbe is now the political, cultural, educational, and financial center of Tajikistan.
Highlights of the day include a visit to the city center, Ismoil Somoni Monument, Dusti Square, New Parliament, Rudaki Park, the National Museum of Tajikistan, the towering 165-meter flagpole, the new central mosque, and the Mohrgon central market.

Day 12. Dushanbe – Khujand
Before leaving Dushanbe, visit the Ancient Hissar Fortress, located about 30 km from the city. This historic site was the residence of Bukhara Emirs during the 16th–18th centuries. Explore the fortress itself, the 16th-century medrese, and the on-site museum to learn about the region’s rich history.
Afterward, continue your journey north to Khujand, traveling through the Varzob Gorge and across the Anzob and Shakkhristan passes via tunnels. Along the way, stop frequently to capture photos of the stunning mountain landscapes, high passes, and scenic valleys and gorges. Arrive in Khujand in the evening.

Day 13 Khujand
Spend the day exploring Khujand, the second-largest city in Tajikistan and often considered the unofficial “northern capital.” Over the centuries, Khujand has had many names: Alexandria Eskhata during the time of Alexander the Great, Leninabad in the Soviet era, and its historic name restored after 1991.
Highlights include the city center, the Sirdaria River, monuments dedicated to the kings of Khujand, and the Museum of Antiquity named after Timurmalik. Visit the historic Khujand Fortress, the bustling Panjshanbe Bazaar, and the mosque and mausoleum of Sheikh Moslekhiddin. Explore the Palace of Culture “Arbob” (10 km from the city) and the Kairakkum Water Reserve (25 km from Khujand), enjoying both cultural insights and natural scenery.

Day 15 Tashkent
In the morning, transfer to the Uzbekistan border and cross from Tajikistan into Uzbekistan, adding another country to your travel collection. After the border, continue to Tashkent, the lively capital where modern glass towers stand alongside Soviet-era architecture and intricate mosaic mausoleums.
Upon arrival, enjoy some free time to relax or explore on your own. In the evening, take a brief orientation walk around the city, with an optional dinner available to sample local cuisine.
